Fried modak recipe / talniche modak 

Fried Modak recipe for Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Modak is Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet, and it is made especially for Ganesh Chaturthi. The crispy, battered, and fried outer casing is filled with a sweet coconut jaggery filling.

  • Ingredients For Fried modak Recipe.
  • Wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 2 tbsp
  • Water – as required (for mixing)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Nutmeg
  • Shredded coconut – 1 cup
  • Jaggery – 1 cup (grated)
  • Dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios) – as desired
  • Oil – as needed

Ingredients For Fried modak Recipe.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add desiccated coconut and fry for a while. The coconut should turn golden brown.
  • Then add dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios) as desired and fry them in ghee.
  • Add grated jaggery to it and cook the mixture till the jaggery melts completely.
  • When the mixture is cooked, add cardamom powder and grated nutmeg mix well, and keep aside.
  • Add wheat flour and water as needed and knead into a soft dough.
  • Keep the dough covered for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Make small balls of dough and roll them like puri.
  • Place the saran in the center of the puri and close it in a modaka shape.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Fry the modaks on medium flame until golden and crispy.

  • The dough should be soft and flexible so the modaks do not break while frying.
  • Fill the saran well and close the modak completely, otherwise, the saran may come out while frying.
  • Heat the oil over medium heat; If fried in very hot oil, modaks can burn quickly and in less hot oil they can become oily.
  • Move the modkas while frying, so they cook evenly and turn golden on all sides.
